The PLAXIS Barcelona Basic Model (PLAXIS BBM) is used to simulate the behaviour of unsaturated soils. It is based on Bishop’s effective stress combined with the suction stress variable, accounting for the transition from a partially saturated state to a fully saturated condition, and vice versa. This model is capable of reproducing an increase in strength with suction and collapse when wet.
