Anglian Water has embarked on a significant journey to enhance the water infrastructure in the UK with its £5bn Lincolnshire and Fens Reservoir Programme. This ambitious plan involves the construction of two major reservoirs, each designed to address the growing demand for water in the region and ensure long-term sustainability. The consultation process with contractors is already in motion, with the formal tender process expected to begin in January 2027. These reservoirs are not only crucial for water storage but also represent a vital step toward securing the water supply for future generations.
Project Overview and Construction Timeline
The Lincolnshire and Fens Reservoir Programme is divided into two key projects, each with specific dimensions and timelines. The Fens Reservoir, located 30 miles north of Cambridge between Chatteris and March, will span 2.6km in width and 2.4km in length. Construction is set to commence between 2029 and 2031, with the reservoir expected to be operational by 2036. Similarly, the Lincolnshire Reservoir, situated 30 miles south of Lincoln, will cover an area of 2.6km by 3.2km. Its construction will also begin between 2029 and 2031, with a target delivery date of 2039.

Collaboration with Contractors and Supply Chain Experts
Anglian Water is keen to collaborate with all tiers of contractors, particularly Tier 2/3 supply chain specialists. The main works contractors will take on the responsibility for the detailed design and construction of the reservoirs, encompassing all aspects from groundworks to water treatment facilities. This collaboration is crucial for the successful delivery of the project, ensuring that all necessary expertise is leveraged to create reservoirs that meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
This £5bn initiative marks a new chapter in water management, with Anglian Water leading the way in creating sustainable solutions to meet future water demands.
