Soheil Nazarian of the University of Texas-El Paso will deliver the 2024 Carl Monismith Lecture on September 19, 2024. His lecture is titled "Extending Mechanistic Design Principles into Construction and Maintenance of Long-Lasting Pavements." The ASCE Geo-Institute (G-I) has established a Lecture in recognition of Professor Carl L. Monismith's contribution to Pavement Engineering. Professor Monismith's teaching and research career in pavement technology, at the University of California, Berkeley, spans more than 50 years. Throughout this period, he has mentored numerous graduate students who have disseminated advances in pavement technology around the world. The C. L. Monismith Lecture will be awarded annually for outstanding research contributions in Pavement Engineering. Dr. Nazarianon infrastructure. Dr. Nazarian has significantly contributed to the body of knowledge in construction, quality management, and mechanistic characterization of earthwork and pavement using innovative technologies such as Intelligent Compaction. He has been one of the pioneers in developing the SASW method and implementation of nondestructive testing in infrastructure assessment. Professor Nazarian has been the PI and co-PI of more than 120 research projects funded by various federal and state agencies. He has co-authored more than 300 technical articles in journals and conference proceedings primarily sponsored by the ASCE and the Transportation Research Board. Dr. Nazarian is the past Chair of the GeoInstitue’s Geophysical Engineering Committee, Chair of the Geology and Geotechnical Engineering Section of the Transportation Research Board, and is on the Executive Board of the International Society of Intelligent Construction.
