A hillside collapsed on top of a bridge in northern Peru, Thursday, December 19, sending the bridge plummeting into the raging river below after heavy rains over the past few days have swollen rivers across the Andean nation. The bridge collapsed after parts of the highway and hillside were peeled away by the high waters of the Cajas river. Further south in Ayacucho, a mountain highway was partially destroyed by the raging rapids of the swollen Ene river. (Reuters)
