Norway User Group Meet - June 2026

Join Rocscience in Oslo for a focused three-day event featuring a complimentary User Group session followed by a two-day Finite Element Modelling workshop. This event is designed to bring together geotechnical professionals to exchange practical experience, learn from real project applications, and build deeper expertise in RS2 and RS3.

User Group Date : June 10th, 2026

The User Group session on June 10 will provide an opportunity for participants to connect with peers, hear how Rocscience software is being used in practice, and discuss challenges, insights, and achievements across a range of projects. We also welcome attendees who are interested in sharing their work with the group.

The User Group session is intended for Rocscience users who would like to:

• hear practical case studies and project applications from fellow users
• exchange ideas and lessons learned with industry peers
• connect with Rocscience specialists and the local user community
• learn about innovative ways Rocscience software is being applied in the field

Workshop Dates : June 11th–12th, 2026

Following the User Group, the two-day workshop on June 11–12 will offer hands-on technical training on the Finite Element Modelling of Surface and Underground Excavations, with a focus on practical workflows, modelling strategies, and interpretation of results in RS2 and RS3.

FEM Workshop

Finite Element Modelling of Surface and Underground Excavations

This two-day workshop will cover core and advanced FEM topics in RS2 and RS3, with emphasis on model setup, material behaviour, groundwater, support systems, coupled analysis, and common excavation applications.

Course Outline

Day 1

The first day introduces the fundamentals of finite element modelling for geotechnical problems in RS2 and RS3, including model setup, project settings, 3D geometry creation tools, and interpretation of results.

Participants will then explore material modelling options, including:

• classical material models such as Mohr-Coulomb and Generalized Hoek-Brown
• advanced hardening and softening models
• anisotropic material models

The day also covers groundwater modelling, including:

• simplified pore water pressure generation
• steady-state and transient seepage analysis

Support elements in RS2 and RS3 will also be reviewed, including:

• bolts and their different formulations
• liners and structural interfaces
• interface behaviour
• piles and their available modelling options

Day 2

The second day focuses on hydromechanical coupling and practical engineering applications.

Topics include:

• consolidation theory using Biot’s formulation
• drained and undrained materials
• model setup and boundary conditions for coupled analyses

Participants will also review common applications such as:

• deep excavations
• tunnelling
• reporting workflows and tools

Time permitting, the workshop will conclude with selected advanced topics, including:

• discrete fracture networks in RS2 and RS3
• the shear strength reduction method
• factor of safety calculations for slopes and excavations
• scripting in RS2/RS3
