Big Bend border project fight: Heavy machinery moves out as Texans push to protect park

SAN ANTONIO — Heavy machinery is moving out of parts of Big Bend National Park after the federal government paused construction, but opponents of the massive border project say their fight is far from over. As U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott continued evaluating the Big Bend region Wednesday, supporters of the park took their concerns more than 400 miles east to Austin, packing the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission's annual public meeting and asking state leaders to protect state-owned land.
